Open Accesslistelement.badge.dso-type Item , The impact of portfolio diversification on long-term investment performance(BRAC University, 2026-04) Ullah, Md. Sahan; Hoque, Mohammad Enamul; BRAC Business SchoolDiversification of portfolio is considered one of the cornerstones of portfolio management largely because of its risk-reducing capabilities while sustaining a steady return stream. Diversification was conceived under Modern Portfolio Theory. The strategy helps allocate assets across multiple asset classes, sectors, and securities in a managed way for reducing non-systematic risk. Notwithstanding the theoretical rationale and support for such a strategy, its effectiveness in emerging markets such as Bangladesh still lies in unproven territory. In this research, the effects of diversification on portfolios have been observed on the basis of diversified and non-diversified portfolios with respect to the capital market of Bangladesh. Based on the secondary data for the long-term period, portfolios have been made using equities, bonds, and mutual funds, and various performance measures such as return, standard deviation, Sharpe Ratio, Maximum Drawdown, correlation, and covariance have been applied on them. Empirical results show that diversified investment portfolios are much less volatile with lower drawdowns than concentrated stock portfolios, but with more stable risk-adjusted returns. The addition of negatively correlated or less correlated assets, especially bonds, was crucial in improving the stability of the investment portfolios, especially in times of turmoil like the COVID-19 crisis. Despite the occasional superior return in the non-diversified portfolio, the risk on the downside was considerably higher. In conclusion, the results of this study indicate that asset diversification is crucial to the stability of investments in emerging markets. It should allow investors to understand the value of investing in a multi-asset strategy to achieve sustainable returns on their investments. Open Accesslistelement.badge.dso-type Item , Brand positioning and consumer perception: A study of bKash vs. Nagad(BRAC University, 2026-05) Mim, Tasnim Nusrat; Islam, Mohammad Shahidul; BRAC Business SchoolThis case study examines brand positioning and consumer perception of two leading mobile financial service (MFS) providers in Bangladesh, bKash and Nagad, within a rapidly expanding and highly competitive fintech market. Driven by increasing mobile phone penetration and the need for greater financial inclusion, MFS has transformed everyday transactions, particularly for unbanked and rural populations. The study explores how bKash and Nagad differentiate themselves in a market shaped by trust, price sensitivity, convenience, and accessibility. bKash has positioned itself as a secure and reliable financial ecosystem through first-mover advantage, a large agent network, and diversified service offerings. In contrast, Nagad has emphasised affordability, government affiliation, and accessibility for rural and low-income users. Using a mixed-method approach, including a survey of 350 respondents and analysis of secondary data, the study finds that consumer preferences are segmented rather than uniform. bKash is perceived more positively on trust, security, and user experience, whereas Nagad performs better among price-sensitive and previously underserved segments. The findings also indicate growing dual-platform usage, with consumers selecting platforms according to transaction type. The study concludes that successful brand positioning in emerging fintech markets depends on balancing trust, affordability, and accessibility while adapting to regulatory developments and evolving consumer expectations. Touhiduzzaman; Akhtar, Afsana; BRAC Business SchoolThis report mainly examines how compliance functions and audit activities are performed at Therap (BD) Ltd., a healthcare SaaS company that deals with sensitive health related information. I did this on my internship between November 2025 and April 2026, where I was working on audit prep, evidence validation, document review, training compliance tracking, aiding with vendor risk, and answering auditors. The report examines how such tasks create actual governance in a regulated technological sector, rather than viewing compliance as a formality. The investigation follows a qualitative paradigm methodologically because it has relied on first-hand involvement, systematic observation, and the examination of non-confidential records. The subject of discussion is the interaction of audit processes, documentation procedures, risk management, and controls, which relate to training in a multi-framework setting due to regulatory requirements, including HIPAA, SOC 2, and others. It also reflects on the overall organizational environment of Therap, where secure systems, coordination, and discipline of processes are essential to the day-to-day affairs. The results indicate that Therap maintains a fairly effective compliance environment, with frequent review cycles, centralized documentation procedure, and team interdependence. Simultaneously, the analysis reveals the following real-world issues, such as delays in evidence gathering, the need to manually map similar requirements across frameworks, cross-team dependencies, and time zone coordination. The issues are not indicative of a weak control environment but rather are a mirror of the complications of multi-framework compliance in a real organizational setting. Lastly, audit work at Therap is not lower than what the outside world requires. They contribute to a better system of governance and risk management within the organization, a high level of accountability, disciplined documentation, and continuous improvement. The report suggests enhancing evidence aggregation, implementing AI automation to eliminate redundant activities, formalizing pre-audit activities, specifying response timelines, and improving monitoring through visualization in the form of dashboards, among other measures. Three main sections here: my internship experience, an overview of the organization, and the main project analysis. First, I discuss the work I performed as a Universal Officer—my daily tasks, the key lessons I gained, and how I saw digital transformation and sustainable branch operations play out up close. There’s a big focus on what skills I picked up and how strategic moves toward sustainability actually changed how the bank works. Next, I present a full picture of BRAC Bank PLC itself: its vision, mission, values, how it’s structured, roles and responsibilities, and how the bank’s financials have held up over time. The final section digs into BRAC Bank’s commitment to sustainability. At this section, I explain how the “3P” approach—People, Planet, and Prosperity—shows up in real-world policies, from green finance and responsible lending to programs that boost financial inclusion. I also look at digital innovation, like paperless banking and omni-channel service, and review how effective BRAC Bank’s governance really is when it comes to being sustainable. The report highlights how BRAC Bank stands out as a green banking leader, thanks to its investments in renewable energy, backing for small businesses and women entrepreneurs, strong ESG reporting, and smart positioning in the market using SWOT and VRIO analyses. I also measure the bank’s financial performance over the past five years with growth stats and ratio reviews. In conclusion, I suggest that BRAC Bank should double down on its digital presence, fine-tune its sustainability reporting, broaden its reach into other industries, and stay even more collaborative with regulators—to establish itself firmly as a pioneer in sustainable banking in Bangladesh. Based on my internship and existing job, this paper analyzes the company's method for forecasting demand for denim products by combining theoretical ideas with practical experience. Here, I am using forecasting techniques including time series models, moving averages and exponential smoothing to predict future product demand of this field. Despite the use of statistical techniques, it was clear that seasonality, global economic volatility and the rapidly evolving textile industry may decrease its effectiveness. Therefore, shifting toward assumption based forecasting can enhance the customers’ experiences and also getting feedback from them can increase more reliability. However, this paper gives an accurate representation of how demand planning directly affects production efficiency, inventory control and customers’ satisfaction by using accurate previous data and their viewpoint. In addition, the paper identifies the difficulties in predicting actual market activity and offers specific suggestions for improving forecasting accuracy through the use of digital tools, hybrid models, and real-time data processing.listelement.badge.dso-type Item , Pathao’s marketing challenges of sustaining growth and brand trust in the competitive ride-sharing market(BRAC University, 2026) Mitu, Shaheda Kabir; Islam, Mohammad Shahidul; BRAC Business SchoolThis case describes the critical marketing challenges Pathao has in upholding long term brand trust amongst an intensely competitive ride sharing scenery. I have analyzed the market feasibility for introducing a lithium renewable battery storage system in Bangladesh. The nation’s energy demands have been increasing. There are possibilities of supportive government policies for renewable energy in the future. On the contrary, electricity costs have been rising. Thus, the lithium renewable battery market has potential growth opportunities. Dongjin has good networks with engineering firms, biomedical equipment manufacturers, and government projects. Thus, the company can think about introducing renewable energy storage solutions. Nevertheless, a complete analysis provides major opportunities and challenges. Regulatory unpredictability, huge initial investment costs, technological adaptation challenges, and economic instabilities affect consumer behavior and are the major challenges in this regard. Furthermore, environmental awareness regarding battery disposal as well as uncertainty regarding supply chain carry probable risks. Though these challenges linger in the corner, my analysis shows that going into this market would align with Bangladesh's sustainability goals. In the long run it will benefit Dongjin. To achieve the goal, Dongjin needs to focus on selecting strategic partners and exhaust their existing resources. Dongjin Longervity Industry Limited may avail a big piece of cake in the growing demand for sustainable energy solutions. They should foster an environment of long-term growth and profitability. This analysis will shed light on these vital points. Nazmul; BRAC Business SchoolThe internship report "An Analysis of the Recruitment & Talent Acquisition Process at Meghna Group of Industries (MGI)" offers an in-depth look of the hiring procedures and difficulties in one of the biggest companies in Bangladesh. This report suggestsprovidingpractical information on the recruitment policies and systemsthat the human resources department of MGI has used to organize massive recruitment programs to meet the diverse workforce needs of its business units, which include manufacturing, logistics, textiles, and fast-moving consumer goodsand many more.As I worked in theHR department during my three-month internship, I was able to observe and carry out crucial duties such asscreening resumes, communicating with candidates, coordinating interviews, managing employee files, documenting, entering PMS dataand performingon boarding procedures. This study concludes that despite the systematic nature of the methods employed by MGI to acquire talents, which include identification, short listing, interviewing and on boarding of candidates, the system has several weaknesses. The high centralization of recruitment processes at headquarters, the administrative burden, and delays caused by coordination make large-scale recruitment campaigns ineffective. The department has not been using many HR technologies but still relies heavily on paper and manual communication; moreover, the recruitment process is complicated by the lack of standardized guidelines for documenting and assessing employees. Despite such challenges, the human resources department of MGI has a laudable track record of getting the right person in the right place at the right time, and this aspect has been attained through teamwork, multi-tasking and optimizing the available interns who enhance the operational efficiency significantly. The results highlight the extreme urgency of embracing digital hiring tools, decentralization of some HR processes, and a more standardized structure in order to increase productivity and improve the jobseeker experience. In addition to improving knowledge of business HR procedures, this report offers insightful suggestions for improving MGI's hiring process. As an intern, I saw the experience as a chance to develop real-world skills, comprehend actual HR difficulties, and close the knowledge gap between academic study and professional implementation.
